Pinocchio Nose
This nose works through air pressure and force. The nose is a turkey syringe that is hooked to an air tube that travels up the mask and over the actors head. The hose hooks up to a bulb from a blood pressure cuff. When the actor is supposed to lie and have his nose grow, he squeezes the bulb in his pants and the nose grows 3."
The mask is paper mached, and painted to match the bodysuit the actor also wears.
Gingerbread Man
The gingy puppets were made from 3" foam. I used a utility knife and a pattern provided by the puppet designer to cut it out and shave it down. From there I laid out brown felt and hand stitched the sides to the felt. The icing, and eyes were made from polyfil. The puppet works by the puppeteer putting there hand in the back of the head where the mouth opening is and pulling their hands down which pulls the mouth down and gives the illusion that gingy is talking.
Both processes were done for torture gingy and normal gingy.
Dragon
I was one of a few people involved in the build process for the dragon. One of my duties was to carve out the body parts for the dragon. The body parts were made from 6 layers of insulation foam. From there I took a turkey carving knife and steadily carved away bits of foam and gradually rounded out the edges.
Shrek's Leather Handbag
The bag started with a stiff muslin mockup. From there the mockup was transferred to brown leather. The sides were hand laced with a rotary punch and raw hide laces and then stitched to a leather belt. The bag had to be big enough to fit the prop onion.
